I tend to worry a lot. and since I have beeen sexually active since I was 19 and I have never been before. I am afraid that something could be wrong with me when I go for the appointment. Worrying will do nothing but stress you out.
It is too late to have changed any of your behaviour in the past--you have done the smart thing by making the appointment.
Be honest and up-front with your gynecologist--if you have been careful about using condoms in the past, chances are that you're fine. If not, most sexually-transmitted diseases can at least be TREATED effectively these days.
Focus on the fact that you have taken positive action, and try not to get too worked up!

dont worry too much, just be sure to attend your appointment, and go at least once a yera, its a very small price to pay for the benefit received, the doctor should be very profesional and make the experience the lest unconfortable for you as it can be, you will probably be ok, but be aware that a sample is gonna be taken for analysis and you wont have your results right away. good luck.

My wife told me that she preferred a male doctor since men are a little more careful, she had a couple of female doctors before and they were a little bit rough

Age has nothing to do with seeing a gynecologist, so I don't know why your doctor told you to see one at age 21. If you have been using protection you're probably fine, but you do need to see a gynecologist to be sure. You could have a hereditary condition that has nothing to do with being sexually active, who knows? Don't be afraid, but it might help if you requested a female gynecologist.

you shoulda been to the gynie the second you became sexually active--what kind of birth control are you using, if anything? You need to be checked every year.
And don't worry, it doesnt hurt. And if the dr is a man, then if it'll make you feel more comfortable, ask the nurse to stay in the room (my dr has the nurse stay in the room no matter what, he says it's easier that way).

If you have never been to an OBGYN why worry? Why do you feel something is wrong? Did your Dr. indicated that something may be wrong? Most women have general exams once a year. Nothing has to be wrong. It is called preventive exams. Pap smear, breast exam, etc. Just general stuff. Just because you are sexually active it is a precaution.

No this is simply the start of your women's appointments that become necessary with age. It may be a bit uncomfortable and a few women do find mild pain with Pap Smears but it nothing to be bent out of shape over.

It's always a good idea to get a check up regularly that way if there's a prob you can get it delt with before it becomes a bigger prob. A more preventative approach is the best in the long run.

That's pretty lousy advice from your doctor, if you're waiting that long to go to for a pelvic exam. What a crappy doctor.
And you are the only one that can answer whether you should be worried... if you've been having lots of unprotected sex with various partners, you should be worried.

I'm sure there is nothing to worry about! These appts are just to check for anything that could be wrong. If they do find something, it should be early enough to get rid of it safely!

Don't worry...things will be fine. The Gyno. will just check your vagina for different things like STD's, and cervical cancer. Gyno's really really help you. You should go. If you have any questions about your vagina, then talk to your Gyno. when you get there because they know everything!
