To dress "preppy" or "preppie" is to look clean cut, affluent and social and/or politically correct. Those who are not well off may dress preppy hoping to achieve the look of "old money" if you will. It began with the WASP (White Angelo-Saxon Protestant) wave. Since the preppy look began in the northeastern region of the United States, it is also the dress of those attending the schools of Harvard, Yale and Princeton. Clothing stores that are considered to sell the preppy look are LL Bean and the like.

Just start looking at others that you think dress preppy. And duplicate it. Normally right now I think it is the tan pants/shorts and a pull over shirt with a collar, and a t-shirt underneath. Throw on a belt, buy a beaded necklace and bracelt, SHOWER and be clean, throw a little mouse in the hairthen frizz it up like you just woke up. Most pay alot at fancy stores for that itsy bitsy logo, but you can look decent without it.

A tailored blazer teamed with khaki slacks over a crisp white shirt & sweater vest complete the "preppy" look you wish to achieve.
Look at hip-hop artists like Kanye West, Usher, Diddy for inspiration. Designer threads like Ralph Lauren are known for this (preppy style)

to dress preppy you wear a nice pair of chinos.(khaki pants)..at the waist or just below. a brown belt or no belt. and a izod, polo or other brand name collar t-shirt any color but white is the best...with only the top button undone. everything is pressed..but you can or cannot have a crease in your pants. vans of deck shoes...this works for men or women...and you used to could buy your clothes at The Gap...in fact that was the gap that the store filled....the peppy gap...look for clothes now at dept. stores in better clothing or the goodwill or salvation army stores.

Wear a polo shirt, dress slacks, nice socks, timberland shoes for a guy. As long as you look clean cut with nice clothes you can look preppy. :)

Get your clothes from american eagle. Spike your hair and wear a polo shirt with a popped collar. Wear plaid shorts and some dockers for the shoes. Or maybe some distressed flip flops.
