The main cause of insomnia is STRESS!!! So of course you have to use ways of relaxing your mind, body, and spirit. Some people meditate, or pray. Really either one of those are very similar. Take a warm bath, don't eat for at least 4 hours before bed, also no rigorous exercise either. Listen to music or sounds that calm you, not necessarily while trying to sleep. You can do this anytime during the day or night when it's convenient for you do. Relaxation techniques throughout the day/night will actually be better, because you will be less stressed at bedtime. Schedule a massage for yourself on a regular basis, based on your budget. Some massage therapists will work with you for a discounted price for multiple massage sessions. Limit your caffeine intake in general, but especially four or more hours before bed. One of the best ways is to improve your diet in general, less sugar, caffeine, and processed foods will give you more energy during the day, and deeper sleep at night. Go talk with a qualified person at a health/whole food store they can recommend different nutrients, vitamins, herbs, etc. Always remember to tell your Dr. about any alternative health approaches you are using. Herbs, and others supplements may cause reactions with Rx's, or other supplements. Your Dr. should be open to Alternative treatments, and if he is not then find a Dr who is.

Try warm milk. Then lie in a dark, silent room. Breathe deeply, and let out slowly. Do this a few times.

Try to not think of any thoughts. If a thought does come up, you can put it aside until morning (or evening). If there is an emergency you will get up and handle it. Then you will relax again when it is over. Just relax.

That will either put you to sleep or at least get you into a restful state if you do this correctly.

Good night.

Drink some coffee before you listen to a long book on tape at a coffee shop after getting it at the library or bookstore. They wont let you sleep there and you'll be kicked out if you sleep so that should keep you awake! By the time you're done, it will be time to sleep so do what the book says and hopefully you wont have insomnia..i heard drinking chamomile tea works..it did for Benjamin Bunny. HOW did you write your user name like that?

Chamomile tea, kava kava root tablets, calcium tablets, Benadryl, analgesic -- in any combination, and in any dose that's recommended on the various packages.

If your main problem is an active brain that won't shut off, mentally or verbally slowly recite a long passage of something you've memorized. Lists of the Presidents, lists of the State capitals, any of those things you had to memorize in school (if you're American. If not, any list of stuff you had to learn in school to pass grade 5 or its equivalent.)

Be sure you have a good going-to-bed routine that calms you. It's a good idea to shut off any elctronic entertainment (TV, movies, games, etc) and loud music 45-60 min before trying to go to sleep.

Valerian capsules taken right after supper will relax you enough by the time you go to bed to sleep well, but remember it take approxmately a month for herbs to work through your system, so don't expect immediate results.

yes, aloe mineral supplements right before bed will calm your nerves and trigger more melatonin(the sleep signal for your brain) to be released and made. You should only have to take them for a few months to get back on track. The supplements are inexpensive, easy to take and have no negative side effects.

email me for more info on where to get them, Id love to help!
