I have a running toilet. First possible solution, I replaced the flapper. This stopped the running, but the toilet is still making a noise that sounds like someone is rapidly banging on it. It's not a loud noise but it makes my mirror (across the room) rattle. At first I thought my next door neighbor may have left on their bathroom fan. However, after some detective work, I realized it was my toilet because the noise stops when I shut off the water. Any solutions to this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Been running into these problems for years. Most of the time I find the Ballcock going bad. The plastic lining inside the ballcock comes loose and gets stuck on the seat that closes the water off. IM if ya need help replacing it

Your new flapper is still leaking. Drain the tank and CLEAN the flapper seat (where the flapper seals or in your case, fails to seal). If your water is still running, the water is going someplace. It could be that the float is set too high and the tank water is running over the overflow. Lower the setting of the tank fill!

It almost sounds like you have what is known as a water hammer. Air in the lines. But this is unlikely since you have run the water in the toilet and sink and shower. YOu might try replacing the float in your tank. They are not very expensive and can be pickedup at any hardware store or farm co-op.

I believe you still have a slight leak and the noise you are hearing is most likely you pipes hammering. Try replacing your fill valve assembly.
