need a machine that will sew, cotton, denim and viynl, also needs to have diffrent stitches not just straight. which one is the best, there is so many out there to choose from

A New Home! mine is almost 37 yrs old and I bought it because my mother's was such a great machine, its what I learned on too: so if you want a long lasting, well pro former (yes it still does everything I need it to do) look for a new home and what ever you get, remember to keep it clean and oiled, its the life of your machine....

Yes Singer are terrible now. The tension went on mine and I took it to a course on getting the best out of your sewing machine and the tutor said that happened a lot and it was not repairable.
I bought a fancy Janome on her recommendation which does no hands embroidery from a program but haven't found much time to play with it but very expensive.
I've spoken to a number of sewers since and the consensus seems to be that Bernina is very good. I used those at school and they were tough and reliable.

Singer has great machines and you can find one at Walmart for around $90-100. Depending on the machines capability you can put high tention needles in it so you can sew through denim, etc.

Please don't buy a Singer. They used to be good but their quality has gotten really bad.
Go to Sears and buy a Kenmore machine. They are very good and reasonably priced. I used to sell Kenmore machines and I think you will find one that does everything you want for a price you can afford. Be sure to ask for a heavy duty machine so you can sew on denim.
