You can't have the wish to "stand out". That's the first thing. The minute someone starts using that as motivation he's done; because its usually obvious and it usually means he can't just be himself.

You have to like who you are and be who you are. Dress in a way that makes you your most attractive and that makes you feel confident by playing up any good features/attributes you have. You have to kind of assume that other people are probably pretty much like you underneath, so if you see something humourous comment on it. They'll probably see the humor too. Make a little fun of yourself, but in a way that isn't degrading. For example, if you have a weight problem don't make fun of that. If, on the other hand, you got all frazzled one day trying to get something done in time and you made some dumb mistake, make fun of that. Someone else has probably done the same thing. With the example of the weight, it just isn't appealing to demean what you are.

Probably the biggest thing is to just relax and see yourself as pretty much like everybody else. Charisma may not be something you can build for yourself because maybe its natural, but having a good personality, liking people, being funny sometimes, serious other times, and enjoying other people mostly comes from just being you.

Something else is that when facing any situation (whether its parking a car, walking into a room, finding a seat, or deciding what to get on the menu, etc. - in other words, small things) is to act like a leader rather than a follower. If someone else parked on the left, don't just copy them. Find a space that you like. If the group can't decide on Italian food or Chinese, just make the decision. If nobody objects, great. If they do, then the decision gets made because they want the opposite of what you said. You don't have to have a group of followers to act like a leader. Act like a leader and the followers will follow.

P.S: Sometimes one of the biggest ways to stand out is to try to blend in or be inconspicuous!

Perhaps one begins by investigating what blockage exists within oneself that keeps one from being humorous, charismatic, etc.

The things that quickly come to mind are fear of being wrong, fear of being seen as silly, fear of being criticized, fear of people, tendency toward shyness, and perhaps we might also consider the reason one becomes humorous and charismatic?

Most often a comic is attempting to overcome a tendency toward shyness. The person who others would describe as charismatic is one with a need to be seen as helpful, kind, thoughtful, quick witted, and charming. Develop the need to be seen as charismatic and voila, one has created a new personality... which is like a house built on sand.

Probably best to work on thoroughly enjoying being oneself.

Nurturing your soul with the things that make you happy and satisfied. Life with principles and ideals, mixed with common sense, books, relaxing technics, assertiveness courses, empathy with others. The personality is a little tree that needs all the elements in the air: you need snow, storm, sun, parasites, rain and everything that is about living a life at your full potential
