A representative democracy is not our form of government anymore. The people elect representatives from one party or another. The candidates are beholden to the party, not their constituents. The candidates spend their time in office paying back the special interest groups and corporate sponsors who donate to the national party, they do not work for the people who vote for them.
They know 80% of the vote is a lock, 40% will vote Democrat and 40% will vote Republican. They have to get the independent vote or keep the independent uninterested in the campaign by running a dirty campaign that turns off voters who do not support a clear party line.
The come election day the Democrats roll out their buses and bribe people into voting with a ride and a $20 bill and call it "getting out the vote." And the republicans pray for rain because democrats don't vote in the rain.
But I hope you understand this is no longer a government of the people, by the people or for the people. Its about getting power and money and keeping power and money. The people are just an inconvenience who pay the taxes that support their system.

No.
There's no evidence to suggest that the representative democracy isn't desired by the citizens let alone that it does not work. As a matter of fact most Americans do love their freedoms and the best way to ensure and promote such freedoms is throuh representative democracy. What do you want to eliminate, the representative part or the democratic part?
If it is not representative then someone other than voters would choose the candidates that we vote for which would be kinda like a political oxymoron or sham democracy which exists in much of the world today. Without the democracy part you can forget about your freedom as well as the government even pretending to represent you.

Not now. And probably not in general.
1. In a time of insecurity, people will tend to create more authoritarian governments than they would at a time of relative peace.
(I admit that the above argument might be reason for people to argue in favor of major consitutitonal change now.)
2. There are changes I would like to see in the constitution, but the document has worked well through time. I would want to see the example of a better constitutition that has worked in real life, rathern than some utopian document, before I would make a change.
In theory I prefer a more democratic constitution, one that abolished the electoral college for example, but the old American adage, "If it ain't broke don't fix it," might apply here.
The consitutitional model that does attract me would be a shift to a parliamentary system of government. If the American executive was a prime minister, when he or she lost the confidence of the nation, he or she could be replaced. Now we have nothing between waiting for the next election and the impeachment process. Badkitty1 also points out other advantages of the parliamentary system.
But in any case, I don't think now is the time.
If the Captain (see above) really thinks "Yeh, people are too ignorant now adays to truly make any judgements for the county," this would notbe the time to have them write a new constitution.

Representative democracy is exactly what this country needs. The problem is that a representative democracy is no longer what this country has. We currently have a group dictatorship. We need to get back to a true democracy where the people are actually represented by their elected officials. And we also need to do away with the two-party system. England has multiple political parties and they seem to be making their government actually work for their people because the competition is fiercer and the members of Parliament have a much higher chance of being voted out of office if they screw up.

I think the representative democracy is working RELATIVELY well. I'm guessing you don't like the decisions being made so you think the whole system should be changed so decisions you like will come out. The representative democracy does allow you to play a part in having different decisions made, do the work necessary to convince people you're right and get them to vote in people who agree with you.

The constitution is fine its the people who are abusing it and the people we keep electing into office that are not running the country right. If we as a people respected our freedoms and held our country on a pedistal instead of saying hateful things about it, we would be a stronger much more prosperous country! We cant expect the government to take care of everything. We as americans have the duty to fend for ourselves and make our country great.

this country is designed so we can change it. it's the people running it that determine how well it works.
The fact that you didn't mention what you think it should be replaced with doesn't surprise me. You people really need to "komm" out of the Kloset.
I don't wanna get reported for abuse, so I won't tell you what you can do with a red star.
I also won't go into how the average age in these responses is probably less than 25 years. Things are NOT THAT BAD. (could be better, but grow up. this country has been through alot worse)

Imagine that, people using an intelligent question to further their own political beliefs, the Dem Senators. I agree with direct elections, however for it to work we need to get more people voting.
