14k is more "pure," and there might be a slight color variation, but most people won't be able to tell the difference, unless they are really looking for the difference in a side by side comparison. More "pure" gold is not necessarily a good thing, however. First, it will obviously cost more, there is more real gold. What most people don't realize is the second point, however. Gold is a very soft metal. If you have 100% pure gold you would be able to shape it with your fingers. Therefore, the more gold you have, the easier it is to damage your ring. You will get more scratches on a 14k ring, and it will be much easier for the ring to get out of shape. My recommendation is to always go with 10k for rings, it is cheaper, and it will last longer.

It has to do with the amount of gold in the ring itself.. the numbering scale is telling the the makeup of the ring.. there is less gold in 10k than 14k.. so the other metals being used to make the ring are effectiveing the color.

Actually it really depends on what metal they are mixed with. Most people cannot tell 14k from 10k at a glance. 10k is much stronger than 14k though and will not be damaged as easily.

An 18K gold mens that's seventy 5% gold and 25% alloy, etc. between the three, 18K may be the dearer and is utilized in a greater severe end rings. 18K is softer than 14K and 10K because of the fact of its larger gold content cloth. The alloy that's being mixed interior the gold makes the steel better.

yes, 14K is darker. However the higher the content of gold, the more brittle the metal. So, 10K is stronger than 14K, which is stronger than 18K. If you are getting 18K, it needs to be of very good quality. Whatever you decide, enjoy your jewelry!!!!
