If you are in rental housing or apartments, you sometimes will find that the previous tenants had a smoking habit that has left the living area overpowered with the scent of stale cigarette smoke. And if you are a non-smoker, the smell can be quite bothersome.
If you find yourself if in just one of these places, simply place small dishes of vinegar throughout the room to neutralize the smell, preferably with the doors and windows closed, if at all possible. Change the vinegar every couple of days and replace with fresh. Also, repaint the walls.
Airing out the house will help immensely, especially if you can do it on a daily basis. Try and get counterflow (ie. in one window and out an opposite door) to provide the best ventilation

Last year we moved into a home where the previous owner smoked. We opened all the windows, painted all the walls with a fresh coat of paint(covered the old smoke marks), and rented a rug shampooer to clean the smell out. This worked really well for us. Also wash the windows to remove the smoke film

You'll need to AT LEAST scrub the walls. When a room is smoked in there is a brown film left on everything. You need to get that out. Painting after scrubbing is a good idea. And you'll have to shampoo the carpets if not replace them. Remove all fabrics and clean and scrub everything else, floorboards, windows, ect.

Ozium is the best odor eliminator I know of. I used to use it in my limosines and it worked wonders. I think it is still available at Walmart or you might find it in an Auto Parts store. Good luck!

sorry, but febreeze won't be enough. you will need to clean the entire room from ceiling to floor, because the smoke gets everywhere. try using bartenders soap, which is designed to get rid of nicotine stains
