Put a jack under the transmission, and raise it enough to take the weight off the mount. Remove the pan to drain it into something, but watch out it will drown you! Replace the pan with at least 4 bolts. Remove the driveshaft, and the crossmember. Take the distributor cap bolts out so it don't break the distributor cap. Lower the transmission enough to get to the cooler lines to remove them. You may need a crows foot to get to them. Remove the kickdown (TV) cable from the transmission before you take the cooler lines off and it will be easier to get to them. Remove the shifter linkage from the transmission. Remove the speedometer cable, any wires that go to the tranny. Remove the dipstick tube, this is another case of getting in the way of taking out the cooler lines. If you can't get the cooler lines you can make more room if you can remove the dip stick tube before hand. Remove the dust cover from the transmission that covers the flywheel. This may not come out, and you may have to remove the exhaust system to get it and/or the transmission out. If this is the case, it is always best to spray a lot of rust penetrating oil on the bolts to get the nuts off. Let them soak in this suff for as long as you can, overnight if you can. Use a long six point socket that fits the bolts real good (can't be loose) or it will round off the nuts and you will be in for trouble. It is best to remove these nuts with an impact wrench, and don't use any more extension than you have to. Keep the impact straight in line with the bolts and take them out with one quick shot. Don't get on the trigger and off the trigger as this will break the bolts. I forgot to tell you to remove the negative battery cable, and the starter. You might need to tie it up out of the way. Get the starter out of there as soon as you can in order to remove the dust cover. Use a long boxed end wrench to remove the torque converter bolts. Again use one that fits really well, as you cannot afford to round off the heads of these bolts. When you dissamble something, if you will lay everything in the order it comes out, all you got to do is reverse that order going back, and it makes it a lot easier to do. Use a flywheel wrench to turn the engine to remove all three torque converter bolts, or a big pair of vise grips will do the trick too. Use a large screwdriver to pry the torque converter back towards the transmission. Lower the tranmission as far down as you can without breaking something. Watch the schroud around the fan, and the distributor for binding as you don't want to break them. Use a long extension and a wobble socket on the bell housing bolts around the top. Take all of them out except two, one on each side. Take the jack up until it has most of the weight on the jack or until it starts to raise the whole engine and transmission. Remove the other bell housing bolts, but put them back in on about 3 threads of the bolt. Use a big screwdriver or pry bar, and seperate the transmission from the engine. Raise or lower the jack until the face of the transmission and the back of the block look in line with each other. This will keep it from jerking it off the jack when you take the other bolts completely out. Hope you have the transmission leveled and on the jack securely or you could be wearing it. Lower the jack while backing it towards the rearend slowly. Keep doing this until it is all the way down. Don't let the front of the transmission got too low or the torque conveter will slide out and you will have a big mess, as it is full of fluid and will drown you good. Just keep the front of the tranny up as much as you can until it gets all the way down.
So there you have it! Good Luck!!

Remove the inspection cover under the front of the transmission and remove the torque converter bolts, you will have to rotate the engine as you remove them they are bolted to the flex plate.
Remove the drive shaft, be careful not to let the bearing caps fall off of the universal joints. you can rap tape around the joint to hold the caps on. Support the transmission with a floor jack under the transmission pan using a board to protect the pan. Remove the transmission mount and cross member near the rear of the transmission. disconnect the wires from the transmission. remove the bolts around the bell housing at the front of the transmission. With the help of at least one friend carefully lower the transmission. Don't allow the transmission to tip forward because the torque converter could fall out and spill fluid every where. Dont let the transmisson fall on you it is heavy and dosn't balance on a floor jack well. If you have access to a transmission jack it will be easer to keep the transmission from falling.

make sure the engine block is held up in the back as well, or you could stress the motor mounts too much and could snap
