As a youngster I used to be forced to watch 'The Singing Ringing Tree' a Czech TV prog based on a fairy tale where an arrogant Prince is turned into a bear. The scariest player was an evil dwarf.
This show scared me & having done a Google search I realised that I was not alone. Some kids went nuts & had mental problems as a consequence.
What do you think was / is the scariest kids TV prog?

So it seems that many of us have a legal case to bring against our parents for child abuse by TV. Shall I hire a lawyer & start a class action?

I agree with the "singing ringing tree" with the big fish in the moat and the evil dwarf.
I also found "dr who" and "sapphire and steel" very scary.

I stopped my kids watching BooBahs. This programme is too weird and although I spose not scary to watch , it is scary that someone actually made a programme that had giant fluffy creatures farting and making stupid noises, and this was classed as learning for youngsters. The humans were just as warped with their stupid expressions and actions, but in trying to include people of different races, they created the weirdest family in the world with mum dad auntie uncle and kids of different nationalities which is beyond me. In all this was written by someone one night who had an extremely low IQ or were just out of their minds on drugs! it sent me screaming everytime it came on!!

I found these frightening as I was growing up:
Grotbags ('there's somebody at the door!')
Chocky (very eerie)
Any episode of Doctor Who with the Cybermen
And, although not a kid's tv programme:
Ghostwatch (I was probably far too young to have watched this. It was the ghost's voice coming from the young girl that got to me the most!)

It has to be Scooby Doo! I know it sounds daft but i hate tht programme. Can't walk past the toys they shell in shops. It has to stem from the part when the mummy walks out the coffin and unravels itself to be nothing there in the opening titles. Can't even stad the music!

I was always ok with the Wombles...until my mum bought me a toy Womble. I had nightmares about this damn toy for years! I think it was the material on the face that made me cringe, a really cheap nylon, and my hatred of nylon led to nightmares!
i still wince now at the thought of the wombles, walking round on their own *shudder*

I was pretty scared by Are You Afraid of the Dark? and the Ghostbusters cartoon.
Nowadays, it's the old show Thunderbirds that freaks me out. *shudders* Puppets...
