Some people may have actually found that by trying to come up with the best answer for a question that may not be all that easy to answer, they can gain something from the challenge of at least trying. I originally discovered the site, thought I'd challenge myself by trying to answer some questions, and then realized as I wrote my answers that I was at that point also trying very hard to help someone in some way.

Is it ego to think one may be able to say something to help someone else? I don't think so - not if your motivation is to treat the question as if a friend asked it in person and you are trying to brainstorm up ideas as an objective and well intended friend. Offering one's ideas doesn't necessarily mean a person expects others to particularly value them. You just put them out there, and if someone gets anything out of them, great. If not, oh well, you tried and you got to do a little mental exercise for your own brain at the same time.

No. Everyone on here isn't an ego-maniac.

Yes we are. Just go to MySpace and see for yourself. This site shows a great example too. I know that I am looking to help others and not just have my voice heard or to try and get top level with the most points. I usually answer health and fitness questions because I really do want to help others with their goals or teach them something that could possibly change their life. Everyone is this way to a certain extent I believe...

P.S. - Please vote me for best answer, not so I look good either. Only kidding!

"Hello FromMe T!
You might have the great truth about this site. It's definitely an ego trip to almost everyone; however, that, in itself, can be a positive factor in our participation (like you mentioned). I've even gotten some great answers from folks who were glad to name me a pompous a** for interpriting behavior from texts.
You're right about the humor. My gosh, some of us are prey to ironic, salacious dispositions from would-be answerers and I'm not laying any blame. he-he!"

Of course it does, otherwise one would not be using it.

It ought not to matter to one what others "think" about ones use of this resource. It's here to use, and hopefully each of us is using it to satisfy needs that need to be satisfied.

In contrast to your wondering, I do find the answer ask resource a great opportunity to convey a number of concepts that most people have not been exposed to and probably need to know.

There's almost certainly no such animal as "pure altruism."
But this seems like a "win-win" situation here. The asker can find ( one hopes) what he/she is looking for and the answerer can get whatever gratification it is he/she gets from giving the best information.

We all work for our own self interest. Sometimes that includes helping others

In order to be selfless we need to deny our self and let God live through us.

Jesus is waiting to welcome you to Heaven. Devil is waiting to torture you in Hell. Make a good choice for yourself whom to follow. Jesus loves us and died to save us humans. And whoever believes in Him will be saved. To-day is the day for salvation. Best wishes! (Please visit: www.spiritlessons.com)
