A well balanced diet for now. He's too young to lift weights. Let his body grow naturally for another two years. When he gets into high school where then he will be able to work out.

He's gonna be skinny for a long time I'm afraid. I was in much the same boat in high school. I was 6'2" and weighed 155 my freshman year. I ate like crazy and lifted weights 5 times a week and only ever got up to 170 by my senior year. I kept with the workout routine and all of a sudden when I was around 22-23 years old I bulked up to 225. Thats just nature, he'll grow when his body's ready.

Don't worry about bulking him up. He's 13. He's too young to lift weights, as his ligaments and joints are still forming and can be thrown out of alignment with weightlifting. Look up Osgood-Schlater's disease sometimes; it's what gives people those knobs at the top of their shin bones, right under their knee joints. It's caused by excessive weightlifting with the legs.

Pushups, pullups and crunches are the best thing for him. Those are natural exercises and can go a long way toward not only strengthening his core but establishing a good work ethic he could carry with him the rest of his life.

He's 13 wait. His body is just starting to really develope. At most maybe a light weight program but forget trying to bulk him out at 13.......if his body type is such that will come later and then he can hit the weights harder

sounds like you are attempting to rush nature..the kid is 13, some kids don't bulk at that age..give it a rest and let nature do it's course for a few years..in the meantime, light weights and proper nutrition will help, but if you're advocating bulking supplements and a heavy regimen of pumping iron i would strongly reccommend against it at this age..
