Only simple minded dolts would give witchcraft any validity. Even the idea that someone would believe in it saddens me to my core that I even share a genome with them.

First thing, do you understand what "the craft" actually is? Do you think practitioners go 'round casting evil spells turning men into toads and causing cows to give birth to two-headed calves? Do you think they fly off to secret rendesvous and party all night, dancing naked with the devil? Only in cheap Hollywood movies, dear child.
I know three people who term themselves witches. One is a male and the husband of the older female. I have been to their coven meetings and encountered as many as fifteen folks who also practice the craft, but with whom I have not become acquainted. All of them are outwardly amongst the most conservative of people. They are not promiscuous and don't "swing". They are deeply caring, deeply involved people, supporting causes such as women's rights in Somalia, helping fund medical missions to isolated Brazilian fishing villages, flying people like myself to remote native villages in Alaska where the residents might see a health worker once every two years.
Yes, they believe in a Goddess, who is accompanied by a male God figure, whom the Goddess outranks...he's her companion, not her master nor her servant. Called "the horned god", he is not the devil nor is he considered a source of malign intent. Together they may decide that a petition to Congress to forbid torture of suspected terrorists and demand the closing of Gitmo is appropriate, but when they draw up and sign such petitions they do not identify themselves as witches/wiccans, but as full citizens of these United States.
So in answer to your question: I don't "believe" in the craft in the same way a Christian "believes" in the Holy Trinity or the divinity of Jesus - but I KNOW these wiccan friends and acquaintances are very, very good people! I would have no problem at all were any of my daughters choose to join them - or my sons - or even my wife!

Lily,
It is more about the power of beleif.
Witchcraft is just one of many set of rituals to set ones mindframe into a power of belief situation.
