The trick in remembering something is to imprint it on your brain and get it from the short term memory into the longterm memory. The more of your senses that are involved in this process the better chance that it will be imprinted in your long term memory and you will have a better chance of recalling it.

Class room research on the effects colour have in aiding memory:
"Colour is also an important tool in visual thinking. It separates ideas so they can be seen more clearly; it stimulates creativity and aids the memory. Colour captures and directs attention."

One of the results:
"The words printed on blue or red cards were remembered the best while those written on green had the worst results. It is interesting that green, most students’ favourite colour, was the worst memory aid. Its relaxing qualities could have had a distracting influence on students."

See the site below for the full study and for a description of the properties of different colours.

Associating anything with anything is one of the most fundamental memory "tricks" there is - associate something with something really strange and it will be easier to remember. If you add color to the mix of what you need to remember, it could be useful. The colors could also be assoicated with something, like the color code for value of resistance on a electrical resistor. In order to test if this actually works, you would have to test a lot of people to see if the use of color helped them to remember something later on, and then evaluate the statistics and results. Good luck with your experiment.
