There's nothing wrong with the German spelling--since when did the English language become the only acceptable language for deciding on official country names? I wouldn't be surprised if most English-speakers didn't even know that Germans call Germany "Deutschland" and the French call it "Allemagne", for example. But that's beside the point :) That's actually a very hard question to answer, and my first answer would be to try to see both. See one first, and see the other later--who's to say you can't make the other country your next trip? Both are worth visiting. Britain is smaller, more compact, and has a longer history; Canada is much larger, more spread out, and enjoys the duality of an English and French heritage, plus the often-overlooked multitude of cultures of the natives, from the Kwakuitls and Tlingits and Haidas on the west coast of BC to the Inuits of the north and the Hurons and Algonquins of the southeast. The culture and histories of both the UK and Canada are related and linked (you'll find the same queen on the currencies of both countries). See them both!

why do you spell canada with a 'k'? is that a typo or some weird comment about canada?
