I have a strange thing with doors too. Not only doors. Doors, stairs, windows, mirrors. I think it is a childhood thing because when I was in elementary school, I heard a lot of things about seeing some old lady named "Blood Mary" when you say her name 3 times, and each story I heard had doors, mirrors, stairs and windows associated with them.

It is quite rare that a phobia or fear that causes one concern would have occurred at a point other than in early childhood. Events later in ones life are remembered, and one is reluctant to do this or that because of those memories [this is simply operating on experience], but this is different than being fearful of something and not knowing exactly why?
A fear that one may have that has no known cause is due to a deeply repressed fear within ones MIND. That's just the way it is.

When I was 12 I was bit by a copperhead while putting my bike up in the basement. It was a small snake and bit me on the BIG TOE,so I didn't get TOO sick, but it took me out of school for 3 weeks and my foot looked like it belonged to Sasquatch.Since then I've very understandingly been deathly afraid of snakes.Even though I can laugh about it now,My heart still skips a beat when I see a snake.

For many people the biggest fear is that something bad may happen to one of their children, and it has nothing to do with their own childhood.
There's also the set of fears that most children go through in a certain order - fear of their parents' dying, fear of lightning, fear of burglars, etc. They grow out of those, though.

I am afraid of flying, I think it has to do with the missions my father flew in the military. He had several close calls. I married a pilot. He tries to explain the mechanics of it, which is a little reassuring. As an adult, I think it is a control issue for me (not being in control). Strangely, I have met many pilots wives who also have a fear of flying.

My biggest fear is my husband leaving me. I rely on him so much, I count on him to help support me and the kids, I count on him to be my friend and my family, I count on him to make tough times better. If he left me I would have no home and my job doesn't pay enough to support myself, let alone my kids. All my life, I lived with one family or another, being tossed around and losing my home every time I felt stable. So I believe this is why I count on my husband so much, I need him to feel stable. Stupid I know, this is why is preach to my children to uphold a good education and work toward a good life, not a dependent one.

My biggest fear is failure which I put on myself. I also have a fear of the Ocean but I don't really care, I just go swim in a pool or lake instead. I don't think its from childhood though, I just don't like salt water, jellyfish, untertows, riptides, sharks, etc.

I had agoraphobia (fear of the outside/panic attacks) because my dad was such a perfectionist and would only notice me (amidst perfect As) when I haven't done something so perfectly even though it's still better than average.
Oh, well. ;) I'm over it.
*message me if you're going through the same things, maybe i can help ^_^*

I have a fear of abandonment (being alone, my mom dying) Also I have a fear of men. And dentists. And the future. And my thoughts. I'm not sure if they are all from childhood, but some of them definitely are.
