I am applying for a position outside of my company and I must list a reason for wanting to leave my current position. The real reason is that my bosses are inept and provide no support for my position, however, I don't think a future employer would appreciate this on a resume. The new position is not an advancement nor does it pay more. Any suggestions on an answer that won't scare away an employer and isn't a total lie?

When I don't want to say why I am leaving I do one of two things:

A) I say it is personal, keeps the questions to a minimum, but does defame anyone

or

B) I will put BETTER OPPORTUNITY, I would like the employer to know that I am always looking to better myself and my claim in this world, if they can't see that you are a commodity and an asset then its not a company you want to work for anyway.

I hire people for my company all the time and I know we are all human, there are things that can cause someone to leave a position. I think the real problems would arise if you say something negative about the employer or if you let it go on long enough for you to get canned or leave with a sceen.

Hope this helps,
MT

Be positive about your current job. Say you are looking for a challenging new position that would benefit from your experience and current skill set -say that you are looking to grow and though your current job is fine, you think this new company would give you a leg up on your career goals - but also that you feel you have a lot of potential and you could bring a lot to this new job - employers always like to hear what you can do for THEM - not the otherway around. Good luck!

Your current position offers little to no professional challenge or growth opportunities. That's the answer I give and I get at least 1 to 2 job offers a year (whether I am looking or not)

Say something along the lines of you are no longer satisfied with the current work environment you are in and wish to find another sector which you feel you would be more comfortable, and thusly more productive, in. If you give the impression that you intend to work harder for a new job than you are presently then you'll usually get by.

Try saying something mildly suck up-ish... Like:

Desire greater challenges, or Looking for a career that uses my full potential, or just say there was not room for advancement at the current place of employment...

Good luck, hope it all works out!

Tell them "Ater going thro your company profile, it came to my understanding that your company appreciate those people who work with passion and those who are really motivated"

Remember "its not products, but people that make a Company great".

You objective line should convey the same meaning as the above stated. You can easily tell them that this is what you were looking for from soo long...

"I wish to advance farther than my current position and employer will accomodate."

That shows that you're looking for something more than a peon job, and is a great reason to leave a company.

I think you should just put down that your current job offers you no possibility of future advancement. That would be a good reason.

Just tell them that there was no room for advancement and you really liked working there but you felt that staying there would have been a waste of your time and your abilities because they gave no real indication for real advancement in the future.

I put "Opportunity for advancement found (or sought) at another company" for the reason why I left a job I hated.
