I read in a new magazine that China is the number 1 destination for British people who want to emigrate to another country, followed by Australia and Amerca. Is this true? If so, why?

I dont know but i would think not. Chinese is a very difficult language to speak/read/write and the culture in China is very different to the "western" world. Most British people gravitate towards Australia I would say, as the language is the same and the prospects better.

France (south of France especially) and Spain are favoured destinations. China may be a great place to move a manufacturing business fbut not a place people go to retire/ drop out.

U should try Malaysia where they are having Malaysia My Second Home. Quite a number of British are retiring there. Everyone speaks English, in fact Malaysia is a former colony of Britain and a lot of British "things" are in Malaysia.

I'd be very surprised to learn that Australia isn't the top destination for Brits wanting to "up sticks" - it's sunny, they speak English and they like their booze...everything a true Brit ever dreamed of...!

nah, I'd have to learn a new language! I would love to emigrate (really can't stand the government, seems like one big scam to me) but I would go to Canada or New Zealand.

No, it's nonsense.
