I got respect both ways, I don't think Rakim is better than Michael Jackson, & I don't think MJ is greater than Rakim. But I got a little more respect for rhymers because there talent has to be way more outstanding to get even half the respect of a singer. ODB was OUTSTANDING & Lauryn Hill could do BOTH equally well!!! But Michael Jackson trying to rap would sound stupid, so would LL's singing. But children, don't base your opinion of rap on what you see on Television, because that's not rap.

From gifted to nontalented: Dr. Dre: It demands a great ear to make the beats that he's made. Biggie Smalls: great freestyler, continuously tried to construct on his skills. Tupac: See above. fats Joe: Very gifted, yet traded in his skills for the money interior the latter component to his occupation. Eminem: sturdy pass. Obie Trice Drake: Has some expertise. purely desires to get removed from the nontalents (Yung funds). 50 Cent Lil Wayne: can not see it. He makes human beings think of that all people can rap purely by making words rhyme. Akon: No expertise what so ever. purely considering you would be able to sound "catchy", do no longer recommend you're gifted.

Singing is more talent based. Rapping can require talent, that is not in doubt. But I have heard too many best selling rappers who have terrible voices. Granted, some singers are also not too great sounding, but that is a smaller number.
I think one of the great appeals of rap is that more people feel "I could do that!" Singing seems to be harder, farther of a reach. Rapping often seems easier. (I'm not saying it actually is because I wouldn't know. I'm just that more people think they can do it without all the work of "singing".)

I don't have to come to ANY conclusion, rap is just poetry - and mostly bad poetry at that. A "great" singer is where it's at , something that's not even on a rappers radar.

Whoever delivers the real stuff. Aretha, Patti, Chaka, Whitney, & Mariah are the best singers. Tupac, Kanye, Talib, Busta, Eminem, Jay-Z, Nas Bone Thugs. They are the best because they are real and they write their own lyrics... well at least the majority of them.

A great singer, due mostly to fact of actual talent and back up talent e.i. drummers, guitartists, and bassists.

If they are both "great", I would say that means they're equally talented. They're two different art forms and can't really be compared like that.
