Ok the equation was: Seven more than twice a given number is 21. Find the number. I put 7+x=21 and subtracted 7 from each side but got it wrong, HELP!

7 + (2x) = 21 (remember it says twice a given number!)

2x = 14

x = 7

check: 7 + (2*7) = 21
7 + 14 = 21...!! tada! :)

7 more than TWICE the given number. The given number is x. Therefore, twice the given number is 2x. After that, since it says that 21 is seven more than twice the number, add 7 to 2x. The equation is 2x + 7 = 21.
Subtract 7 from both sides and you get 2x = 14.
Divide each side by two and you get x = 7.
