They used to be the best team in hockey for a long time, and they still have the most Stanley Cups of any NHL team, with 24 I think. In the 1950s, they won 5 championships in a row with greats like Rocket Richard, Boom Boom Geoffrion, Jean Beliveau, Doug Harvey - all those guys were the best in the game at the time. They were also dominant in the late 70s, and their main star then was Guy LaFleur. Their last Cup win was in 1993, and they haven't been very good since.

Historically there is no better team. Their PAST record is absolutely awesome but now they aren't much. They are just riding on the coattails of their past.

They used to be an amazing team. Richard, Believau, Harvey... They suck now, don't know why. Maybe the management's problem?

Montreal Canadiens 24 Stanley cup, they have over 1000 more wins then the Toronto Maple Leafs. the most history is all in Montreal, George Vezina, Newsy Lalond, Howie Morenz, Rocket Richard, Jean Beliveau, Boom Boom Gofrion, Jacques Plante, Guy Lafleur, Ken Dryden, Patrick Roy, Saku Koivu and the list goes on and on. the big riot in the Forum when Campbell suspended the Rocket for the rest of the playoffs and the Forum is on fire and the streets were trashed, nobody understands the Montreal Canadiens if you haven't read on it or even experience it your self once you are their like i was in 1993 when they won the Stanley cup it was the best feeling in my life. hockey is my life and the Habs are the greatest franchise in all of sports period.
