First and foremost have your child under a Dr.'s care asthma is very serious condition, and I sure that you know that death can result, but also scarring of the lungs and bronchul tubes as well.
I was a severe asthmatic as a child, medication did very little. The only thing that helped my condition was chiropractic care, I know that seems simple but it was a miracle for me. The nerves that come from the brain stem that control respiration are in the cerivical spine when these vertabrae have subluxation they interfer with these nerves, and there function. My symptoms decreased by 90%!! The rest of them were helped by detoxifiy my body with herbs, and improving my diet. I have not had an attack in over 10 years.
Find a Dr. that has training in alternative medicine, or at least one who is open to other therapys. Then consult a trained certified naturapathy, these people are trained in vitamins, herbs, minerals etc. They also can help with relaxation techninques, this is very important because attacks can be brought on by stress, and aniexty. Getting a massage regularly can also help, because it can relax the muscles in the chest and between the shoulder blades. These areas are usually tightened by having attacks.
Please understand, I'm still an asthmatic, but I have no symptoms that affect my daily life. You will always have to watch and know the symptoms and warning signs, because there is never a guarentee that an attack won't happen.
I'm a massage therapist, and a volunteer firefighter. While firefighting I've never had any trouble putting water on a fire, crawling through a burning building, or pulling someone out of a buliding.
Good Luck, and have hope. Always remember to keep his Dr. aware of any alternative therapies, and supplements he is on. This can prevent interactions with RX's and other supplements.

Asthma is an allergy and is triggered by something. The best non medication treatment for asthma is learning your triggers and avoiding them. Common triggers are smoke, dust, mold, mildew, plants, dust mites, pets and grass/weeds.

If you can not figure our your triggers, you may need to see an allergist and have allergy screening done. This may point out your triggers.

The National Asthma Prevention Program and the Expert Panel of Diagnosis and Management of Asthma both agree if you have to use a prescription inhaler such as albuterol more then two time per week, your asthma is NOT in control and you will need a prescription controller medication.

Controller medications are steroids (Asthmacort Asthmanex, Flovent, Pulmocort), Leukotriene modifier (Singulair, Aculade, Zyflo) or mast cell stabilizers (Cromolyn sodium, Intal, Tilade).

You may want to talk to your doctor about several strong controller medications and maybe Xolair shots.

If you want a proven, all-natural way to cure your asthma, without having to pay for useless medications with harmful side-effects, then this is the most important page you'll ever read.

Asthma is not something to play around with. Your child should be under a doctors care. Take notes on when your childs asthma is worse. Air quality, allergies, cold/flu, exercise, etc. Also get to know the signs: flaring nostrils, using stomach muscles to breath, and the base of the throat (below the adams apple). You can also ask your doc about allergy clinics that help you to control the asthma. Get your toddler tested for allergies.

Asthma is a life threatening condition, the child must be under a doctors care to control it. If you are concerned about medications and side effects, express your concerns to your doctor.

I usually suggest garlic to asthma remedy. You may cook their favourite menu with extra garlic. It is safe. Besides can make easily breath, it also can be use as antibiotics. But garlic is not everything for asthma. It is not medical prescription substitution, just only food supplement.
Now western medical apply with eastern (alternative) remedy to make less side effect of drugs. (Such curcuma rhizoma and milk thistle for liver remedy).

I'd be careful when looking for alternative medicine when it comes to asthma. There are alot more asthma deaths occurring than you think, especially in younger children, because it goes unmedicated.

First priority is the doctors advice and continous medication.
Second, try GNLD or Tiens products. I find them helpful. They have helped my brother a great deal. from average of three bouts of attacks to nil since 11 months ago.
Goodluck
