Because they have moved on. They (and in this I am referring to myself and my family) realize that things that happened in the past are the past. To make people in the present pay for the sins of their fathers is arcaic. If you can't move on from the past you will never move towards the future. Oh and by the way, it is true that the Irish were not slaves, however ten of thousands died of starvation and were all but run out of their own country. When they arrive in America, and specifically Boston, the Irish were treated like dirt. There was much violence commited on the Irish people and it wasn't so easy to just change your accent. There was a whole culture there. They might not have been slaves but an estimated 600,000 to a million people died during the potato famine.

Actually they are asking for reparations. It's a movement called "40 bottles and a stool". Go to http://40bottlesandastool.com for more info.

Because they were not in-slaved. Though they were treated badly the could come and go as they pleased. They were not treated as property.

I see what you are getting at, but they were able to change their names and remove their accents and it would not be easy to tell they were irish.
