When the man walks through the cave others around him who've already tried have turned to stone statues. There is a lot of moaning and things to distract him as he walks to the goal. I remember that the movie looked like the time of Ben Hur's making. I saw it on TV in the 70's.

That was "The man who walked through the cave and didn't look back". circa 1968. It starred Ben Johnson as Dit Bandweather the intrepid cave explorer, Vivian laDouche as Verna "Bat" Clittymore the femme fatale keeper of the cave and of course Ron Howard's brother Clint Howard as the whacko clerk at the gas station, the seemingly retarded innkeeper at the "Barnway Motel" and the pissed off orderly at the nursing home. It was a great flick!!

It's probably not it, but the movie Clash of the TItans had people who would turn to stone if they looked at Medusa. I think that was an earlier movie though, probably 80s.

Not sure if it's a movie, sounds more like an episode of the Twilight Zone.
