I am allergic to the pill and have chosen to go with an IUD, I have had 2 children and the youngest is 14, I have researched a lot on this subject but can't find if the Mirena IUD can have side effects caused by the hormones esp. if I am allergic to the pill. Does any one know this answer? I would prefer the Mirena because of the less cramping and less menstrating then the Paragard.

Go to curezone.com and type in Mirena.
I just had mine removed 2 months ago.
If you have a sensitivity to hormones, DO NOT GET MIRENA. Go with a copper IUD. In the 18 months that I had Mirena, I gained almost 100 pounds, lost a great deal of hair, had extreme fatigue and severe mood swings and depression. Most patients do not have these adverse side effects, but if you can't take any other form of birth control that has hormones, I STRONGLY advise you to avoid Mirena.

I just got the Mirena implant it has been about a month now since I have had it although I like the fact that it prevents pregnancy for up to 5 years I have noticed that I have been extremely tired almost as if I have been exhausted since the first week it was implanted, is this normal?

Im Hormone sensative and have Mirena The hormone is so lil that it dosent get in your blood stream but if your VERY sesitive which it sounds like I would personally go with the Paraguard after a year if you have a light normal period (b4 bc) you may see an absence of period even though you may still PMS

if you allergic to the pill you may be allergic to mirena (depends what in the pill you have problems with, the mirena has only levonogesterol) you period with paragard should only be heavier for the first few months and if you take ibuprofen three times a day for three days (check with dr of course) at the very beginning of your period it will help with the amount of bleeding and your period.

I have Mirena.........and like it b/c you will bleed less with it. I have not had any side effects. I am not hormone sensitive. The way I understand it is the hormones stay localized and are not systemic. You should really ask your Dr which is the best choice for you.
