I agree! I have had a job since I was 14 because my parents wouldn't buy me the "designer" clothes I wanted. It taught me to work for what I want and to be responsible.

Yes that is exactly why. Not just kids but people of all ages. Some people grew up with nothing and can actually appreciate the things that have now. Unlike kids who grew up spoiled (kids from 1950-1990) always talk about how they never have anything and win anything when they dont realize how lucky they are. Then they keep buying things they dont need and end up being poor.

Im 38 and i still get an allowance. Its my paycheck and my wife hands me $40.00 to get thru the week. Granted i dont need much money. But the principle still holds true. I think i my boys had $40 or $400 they would blow it in the first day or hour.... Its true appreciation of hardwork and hard money earned has been lost on the youth. Maybe the next generation will bail our kids out.

I saved up that money and we went to the mall and I bought things on the weekends. After my parents got divorced and I moved in with my dad I pretty much just went in picked something up and my dad payed for it.

I didnt get pocket money ever. unless i had a youth even and needed food money. If i wanted money I got a job and earned it myself.

I can count on my on hand the number of times growing up that i asked my parents for money.

I imagine if they had any they might have loaned it to me.

you were lucky my big sister and i got one fifty and that was if my peeps remembered to give it to us, there was no danger you'd ask! for it, so i think that answers the spoilt bit too, i think kids and teenagers are well spoilt! it's just not fair!!! HA HA

this in turn obviously leads to not appreciating the value of money also, what will come of the world!
