am about to be 20 and i graduated high school at 17. In school I was a officer on my dance team, therefore I was pretty good at modern dance, never ballet. I want to teach dance. OU which is the school near me and that I plan to go to, only offers teaching degrees only in Ballet, Should I go for a performing degree in modern? Or teaching degree in Ballet?? Could I get a teaching job just as easily with a BFA in modern performance?? Im awful at Ballet, Ive been taking classes, but now im not even that good at modern? HELP!!

Yes, you will be able to get a teaching job if you get a BFA in modern performance, however it would be helpful if you took some classes in physical education too. Modern dance will offer you more versatility in your career than just ballet and if you don't LOVE ballet, you probably won't enjoy teaching it. Try talking to your advisor at your college, because you may be able to just get the teaching degree in ballet while you still mostly do modern dance. You're lucky- around here the only teaching degree you can get in dance is Physical Education with dance as electives.

Modern dance has more of a practical use. You can't really use ballet if you're in a club, but you can use modern dance. Guys like a girl who can dance well (and vice versa), and more people would be interested in modern dance rather than ballet.

I prefer ballet. It's so much more graceful and elegant. It shows more character.
