I think Sir Isaac was a genius who figured out lots of things about math and physics. That doesn't make him an expert on the end of the world.

The end of the world has been predicted for centuries. Every few years, some new "end-of-the-world" date comes and goes without incident. I see no reason to believe that Newton's chosen date would be any more dramatic than the rest.

It just goes to show that he was perhaps the first of many scientists who wasted his time delving into that crap.

Seriously, that was a very controversial topic at the time, and people were ostracized for saying anything different than the standard church dogma. So he had to keep much of this secret. An interesting thing is, he approached the Bible with logic as he did with his scientific studies - which I think gave him an advantage over the clergy in that respect - and caused him to disagree with key doctrines of theirs. Yet there are many assumptions involved in trying to find such a date - not the least of which is assuming the prophecies will actually happen ;)

People do the same thing nowadays but involving different things - going against the person who knows what they are talking about but they don't like his/her views or beliefs or other things about that person.

isaac newton like all of us is entitled to voice his views on all subjects.there is no second opinion to the fact that the man was a genius but that doesnt really make him god.the prediction of the end of the world has been a rat race among ppl for years.so many have predicted it and have gone wrong.if it does come true well then we have some time left to party here right????

Predictions are predictions it may or may not have any definite base. If it has the he must have proved by analysis. Like he proved many laws of physics.

Tsk! Why does he want to risk his reputation like that? I think he is entitled to his own opinion.
