The world population would decrease dramatically.
In order for the population to remain stable, each woman would need to have 2 kids (replacing herself and her mate). If a woman only had 1 child, after she and her mate died, there would be a half replacement.
Also consider that there are more women than men in the world. Statistically, there is 3/4 chance of having a baby girl versus 1/4 chance of having a baby boy. If a woman only has one child, chances are that she will have a girl. If every woman only had 1 kid, the population would become very unbalanced - there would be a lot more women than men - statistically (biologically as well), there would no longer be a 50-50 split between the sexes.

Actually, the population is naturally about 52 percent female and 48 percent male. 98-99 percent of the population is straight only.
So with those statistics in mind and the fact that the world is overpopulated to begin, I would venture to speculate that we would half our growth in twenty years. Personally, I am in favour of a two-child policy in India, Nigeria, South Africa, Brazil, the United States, Japan, the Phillippines, Jamaica and other overcrowded countries with a lot of poverty.

Not only would it halve the population, but it would radically shift the demographics; there would be a much higher percentage of older people, with all the younger folks being worked half to death.
Speaking as a retired person, myself, I rather like the idea.
