I was a teller for more then 20 years and there is no such thing as being certified unless it is a program within the particular bank.

YES YOU DO have to be certified. However the bank that you apply to does the training and they certify you. I am a certified bank teller and went to a 2 week course.

Certified, is not the right word. You have to be Bonded...

Which means fingerprinted, registered and documented with the state to be able to handle money. Some states are more serious about it then others. In NYC years (ages) ago, I had to be bonded to become a cashier in a grocery store. I don't know how it is from state to state but I know you do have to be in most to be able to handle cash...
