usually to the side of the ear, or in the back of the ear....it's itchy, and sometimes hurts when i press down on it. happens occasionally... why?? i read somewhere it could be calcium deposits or something...? :(

It could be a number of things, you have a gland back there. if you get a bug bite near there it could get infected. It could be something with the mastoid( although generally that doesn't go awaynor will a tumor). It can be a calcium deposte .The best thing is if it keeps reoccurinng is to go and see your doctor it is the only way to be certain what is going on. .(also its a common place for bugs to bite:) also the muscle can knot up and create a bump back there too.

To chime in with some of the others, go to the doctor. It may be nothing. It may be something. But either way, you'll get a medical standpoint on what it is exactly.

it could also be a mastoid bone infection or, even worse a tumor.
you need to get to a doctor asap--if you dont have a doctor, then go to the ER.
Both could kill you.

it could be acne.
