If the check engine light must light before the engine starts, then there is probably a fault in the ignition system relating to the cam or crank sensor. The input from these sensors relay timing information back to the computer so that the correct injector and spark plug can be operated.
Since there is an obvious failure with this system, the vehicle will not start. However, once the check engine light comes on, the computer will no longer try to control this function, and the vehicle is allowed to start. Check the computer codes and find out where to start looking for your problem.
Oh, and thanks to the TROLL who gave my answer a thumbs down!

Hmm ,
Not really familiar with that car .
You may have 2 fuel pumps ?
A Pre and a Post Pump ??
I'll guess you changed the pump closest to the fuel tank ??
There may be a pump further up the fuel line ??
Ask a Mechanic / Mechanics for a Diagnosis and then do the work yourself .

the variety of oil you're making use of may well be a ingredient in commencing time enormously in case you reside in a community with chilly climate. I had A Cherokee Laredo and that they often strengthen oil leaks. for this reason, to maintain the areas lubricated greater effective, i might run 20w50 oil. on a similar time because it extremely is stable for the engine, the oil is thicker and in chilly climate, might have a small 'gelling' effect inflicting the engine to tutor over greater slowly. interior the summertime, it would have no effect. additionally, yet another concern must be the starter. even although you're saying it sounds advantageous, it ought to nevertheless be getting vulnerable with age. Having this checked may well be a stable thought. finally, Jeeps have constantly had an prolonged commencing cycle. The greater contemporary Commander seems to have resolved this concern yet later type Jeeps in simple terms have this as their commencing recurring. maximum take a on a similar time as to tutor over and the cycle may well be somewhat long. except it varies lots with out the suggested oil/climate ingredient and often times would not start up in any respect, i would not be too in contact.

First, there is no carb on this vehicle. I would try to start with by putting your foot to the floor while cranking it. If it starts, knowing the history on these vehicles and ASSUMING it is a 4.0L 6 cylinder, good change the fuel pressure regulator is leaking.
