Gardenhire has done a good job, but I think a great deal of the credit for Minnesota's success should go to Terry Ryan, the club's general manager.

It was Ryan who made the steal of a deal that saw them trade Pierzynski for Nathan, Liriano and Bonser. It was also Ryan who got Lew Ford in exchange for Hector Carrasco, Santana for Jared Camp, and Jason Bartlett for Brian Buchanan. He also made the decision to take guys like Mauer, Garza, Morneau and Cuddyer in the draft. He's definitely the architect of this team, having suffered a lot of losing to get where the team is today.

Gardenhire has done a good job, especially with Liriano being out this year. However, I think the credit for the Twins success more fittingly belongs to Terry Ryan.

Ron Gardenhire always does a good job with what he has. Instead of going out and spending the big bucks on big name players, he brings up younger guys out of the minors who do just as good as the big guys. Liriano was brought up from the minor leagues and became one of the best pitchers in the league. He also cares about his players more than anyone. He took Santana out of an eight inning shutout because the Twins were winning 9-1 and didn't want Santana to get hurt. Jim Leyland comes in at a close second THIS year. He also picked Mauer over the much more anticipated Mark Prior in the Draft.

I wouldn't dispute it. He nearly has done everything with nothing. Coming from a long time Twinkies fan this may be a biased answer but I don't care. I think Gardenhire's greatest ability is to find young players who want to win at all costs and are willing to put the team's interests above their own.

I would tend to agree with you this year. He's taken a club with some talent but no real big names and turned them into a contender. It helps to have Santana every 5 days and early on Liriano as well. With his "no name" players and the salaries they pay them playing in a football State he gets my vote for Manager of the Year.

No no I would have to say Grady Little of the Dodgers. At least he gives everyone a chance to play and yet they lead the wild card. Just something to thing about.

what it is, is that he wins with almost no payroll. I would not dispute him as best manager, i would also give credit to joe girardi of florida.
