Office Space didn’t make much in the theaters but it made a killing on the DVD. It was worth it!

It sure can make money. If they don't expect for a film to do well in the theater, then it actually makes sense. It costs a lot to put a movie in the theaters, with promotion & making all the prints. You can certainly make money going straight to video. Sometimes, when they are making a movie, they know it'll go straight to video (so it's clearly a money-making notion) and sometimes, they hope it'll get in theaters, but it goes straight to video. A friend of mine made this movie independantly, and it did not get picked up for distribution, which made everyone involved very dissapointed -- but the movie went to video AND ACTUALLY MADE MONEY.
So it's worth it.

Actually it is a really good idea for some movies to go straight to DVD. Lately some movie studios have been planning to distribute new movies on all three formats; pay per view (or movie channels) dvd and theater. I think it is brilliant with the cost of movies today there are some movies that i'd like to see but damn sure am not willing to pay ten dollars to see in a theater but will pay 4 dollars to rent and then if i like pay the money to own. Some movies are doing so poor in theaters in the us but do great overseas anyways so sometime the only way for a studio to make any money is to put it out on dvd. think about ten dollars ++(if you get refreshmnets) to see it once or 20 dollars to see it over and over. makes sense to me. :)

Most of the time when that happens, the film did not make much at the box office so movie studio people are hoping it will at least semi-redeem itself on video/DVD.

are u talking about pirated VCDs or DVDs?? Brother,the only persons who make money out of it are thieves,mafia and traitors!!So please don't support piracy!!
