I completely agree! If this country would stop placing so much emphasis on race maybe race relations wouldn't be a problem. Tiger Woods is not black he is half black/half Asian. Blacks are up in arms because he is the greatest of all time so they need to make sure their race gets proper credit.
My children are of European, Native American and Pacific Islander Descent. We do not check the boxes on any document that asks for their race and if we do we check other.
I am only white of European descent and I do not check the boxes for myself either. I'm American.

MY OPINION ONLY:

Most black people in american are not pure african blood. Many have had a mixture of all different races thoughout the years. I know I am very dark, but my mother is extremely light with freckles. There is a mixture of African, German, Native Indian, and others in my family. We are a variation of colors. When people see you or any other person who is mixed they see darker skin and will say BLACK. I wouldn't be offended by it. I mean really think about it... Have you did research on your black side. Are they are pure african blood, I bet not. I bet they are a mixture. I know they don't have a box for me to mark on an application either that can some up my identity better then black. Because black is a collection of all color it seems the obvious choice to me. Get a whole array of colors of paint and mix them into one container, what color do you get get???

This was law during slavery. They considered us animals so even a drop of our blood ruined their 'whiteness" I guess, so if you were even a drop black you still worked in the field or in the house you were still a slave being part white meant nothing. So with all of that people started to embrace it after many years we considered, any black, all black. At this point we have become so proud after many years of being ashamed and degraded most mixed people are eager to embrace their blackness if they have any. I am black and my fiance is white/ Puerto Rican and I know when we have children We would both consider them black because they will mostly look black and that is just the way We think of it. I still want them to know about every part of the but if ever they might ask I will tell them they are black and they should be very proud to be everything they are!

Good question, If you really knew your history u will be proud to be a part of a culture who without, this country would be a third world country. Its on the backs of slaves, free labor for over 4 hundred years that created most of the wealth in this country. If you should be ashame of anything, it is the ones that perpetuated this injustice and made it a normal way of life. Thats if you are of European decent. So know who you are, evrytime u are ashame keep searching for more info. The truth will set you free!

Tiger Woods is only 1/4 black. There are reasons that are mostly political for the phenomenon that you have observed. It is mostly due to either bigotry or Federal Funding. As always, follow the money.
