well i dont think that toothpaste looses its effectiveness - unless you are using a whitening type, and in that case i will stop working bc it can only whiten so much. but for shampoos, id buy a clearifiying shampoo and use it every 4 days, it will rinse out the residue from the shampoo u like and make it work just as effectively as before.

I dont know but that happens to me too.
I have a shampoo I love and it cleans my hair great..then after using it a few weeks..my hair looks sorta oily right after I get done blow drying it! So what I do is find a few shampoos I like and mix them everyday.
As for toothpaste..I know what you mean there too.
I was using a really good one that worked really well and I noticed not long ago it wasn't working so well so now I have a new one.
So basically..you can use the same ones you like, just switch them out every now and then.

Shampoo loses its effectiveness as hair becomes accustomed to it?
The seemingly magic effects of a particular brand of shampoo don't wear off because the body builds up a resistance to it. Rather, our hair can react differently to a particular shampoo because it has been colored or permed somewhere along the line, or because something about our metabolisms or the state of our general health has changed.

I can see that your hair shampoo loses its effectiveness but not your toothpaste! I guess its up to you and if you want to change then go ahead...I have always changed shamppos matter of fact I wash my hair everyday (its short) and routinely rotate 3 shampoos that way my hair stays full in thickness...Good Luck to you!!

This age old question eh?
Well, it's actually a myth! They don't lose effectiveness. It's a sort of Chinese whisper put about by manufacturers of such products to make you believe that you need to change now and again. So, you will buy new products!
I know this because I read an article by British Tricologist Philip Kingsley, who explained it all!

I'm not sure about the toothpaste. I wouldn't think so though. As far as your hair products, yes your hair can get use to it so I would suggest you changing up every few months.

Happens to me with Dandruff shampoo. I use Neotrogena for 3 months, then H&S, then something else, then organic then right back to Neutrogena.

It is the build-up of the product. Especially with shampoos. THey recommend changing brands every two months.
