The moon does appear to have a molten core. This has been verified by measuring its magnetic field and fluctuations in its gravity.
See the attached links for details.

Science has yet to explain how the moon ever became a satellite of Earth in the first place, let alone explain what it's made of. Earth is considered to be about 4.5 billion years old while the Moon is thought to be just over 5.3 billion years old as measured by rocks from both the Earth and the Moon. Also it has been noted that iron found on Earth in abundance is practically missing from the Moon. So much for the moon being a chip off the old block theory. The seismographic equip put in place during the Apollo missions between 1969-77 have yielded some very interesting test results. De-bunkers would have you believe we never went there, ergo, why we haven't gone back. ET enthusiasts have a completely different view as to the same issue.

Scientists believe that the Moon is composed of solid rock, although a small portion of the outer core may be molten. 4.5 billion years ago, the Moon was probably covered by a sea of magma.

Well I sat the tracking console in Goddard and I cant remember which mission they left seismic gear on the moon and after the astronauts got back ,they crashed the Lim onto the moon and it rang like a bell for over 30 min. Almost as though it were empty.

there is volcanic activity on the moon.. so i dont know why people want to tell you its solid.
there is also rumbles from seismic activity so to just write the moon off as a large rock is rediculous.
we'd have much more accurate answers had we ever landed men on the moon- but this mission has eluded us to this point.

It had a molten core at one point, but we believe it is pretty solid now.

It's solid straight through, though the core is slightly off-center.
