DO NOT USE METAL BRILLO!

The iron has a special finish that metal scrubbing pads can ruin. It will never be the same and will probably rust if you try this.

Since you'll never get the iron totally clean (in the holes etc) it's just best to buy a new one. You don't want to ruin a good shirt by using the old iron on it.

Sorry for the loss ;) Trash it and find yourself a new one. They are pretty cheap now-a-days brand new, or keep your eye open for one at a yard sale or second-hand store.

Now.. hopefully you have a nice throw rug to put over the burn mark on your carpet!

As the owner of a domestic appliances shop, we sell an iron cleaner. It is a stick of a substance that you rub on the sole plate. you should be able to get one at an electrical appliances shop , not a major store though, they just want to sell you a new iron. This item sells for about £2.00.You should not use scouring pads or other abrasives, it will destroy the coating on the iron.
Note all irons are coated, it's not just the Teflon ones.

Depending on the irons sole plate you can use a brillo pad but this can be time consuming or you could use a blunt knife or a scraper blade that most people would use to get paint from windows it is easier to do this when the iron is cool though. i wish you luck.

Go out in the woods, and get yourself a pine branch.

Get the iron as hot as it will go, then run the iron over the pine boughs...It will take anything off the iron...

I saw a guy do this in the Marines. I was impressed when he got done, because it was clean, slicker than a whistle!

I wish you well..

Use a scrubbing pad. But if you need to clean the inside (for clogged steam holes) there is a cleaning solution you can get from the grocery store.

use a clean wet cloth with a little dish detergent and scrub, then rinse. or warm up your iron and use an old towel and iron over it until you get rid of the stains.
good luck

Firstly, try a damp dishcloth. If that doesn't work, use a brillo pad with MAYBE a TINY bit of washing-up liquid.
