i was told by my 3 babies' doc that they didnt need a bath daily because it will just cause dry skin. like everyone has said, sponge baths till the cord falls off. and dont forget to put some alcohol on a q-tip and clean around the cord. dont be afraid to get down in there, it wont hurt them. i was afraid with my first and he ended up getting an infection and needed to see the doc. with the next 2 i got in there real good and they fell off in about a week and a half. congratulations and dont be afraid to ask questions, i'm sure you'll be great!!

There's no need to give your newborn a bath every day. In fact, bathing your baby more than several times a week may dry out his or her skin. If you're quick with clean diapers and fresh burp cloths, you're already cleaning the parts that really need attention — the face, neck and diaper area.
Sponge baths are usually the best option at first, at least until the area around the umbilical cord heals. Sponge baths are more convenient than tub baths, and they're much easier on your newborn.

In our prebirth class the nurse told us it was not necessary to give the baby a bath everyday. Every three days or so would do. Her words were "what the hell is he doing to get dirty enough for a bath"? Just use a warm cloth to sponge him until his belly button is healed.
However, I found my son liked baths, especially having his hair washed (he would smile and coo). I gave him a bath every other day until a month old. After that it became a routine every night to get him ready for the long night's sleep. When you bathe him, make sure you wash his scalp. Use a soft brush to scrub his entire scalp. This prevents cradle cap.

I did a sponge bath every other day until his cord fell off. After the cord falls off you can tub bath. I'd still only do every other day. Unless baby has a major blowout( which they are known to do) then just bath as needed.

You do not give a new born a bath to begin with not until the umbilical cord falls off...you are supposed to take a warm wash rag and sponge the baby with mild soap (baby soap) then wash rag out and rinse the baby with warm water with a rag..and that should be done daily because of spitting up and slobber...hope this helps

Once a week is fine. I know that sounds crazy but with their delicate skin its almost best that they don't get that many baths. However I myself gave my son a bath every 3 days. It definitely makes them smell good!

And remember just sponge baths until the cord has fallen off.

Good luck and congrats!

I used to bathe my babies every day because they love the feel of the warm water. It's probablly not necessary more than every other day, but keep in mind that they are constantly filling their diapers and exposing their sensitive skin in the process, so a regular bath is hygienic and will help to avoid skin issues as a result of prolonged contact.

Well you are not supposed to bathe them until the umbilical cord falls off. But then it just depends, I would wipe them down everymorning with a wipe or wet wash cloth. A bath maybe every other day or so.

if ur baby has the umbilical thing still attached to his (or her) belly then you can only sponge bath him (or her). your baby's skin is very delicate and sensitive. n they smell so good. i say you scrub her (or him) down every 3 or 4 days or whenever she (or he) gets that milk smell in his (or her) neck from spitting up n stuff. you don't have a lot of time to yourself now, but i recommend reading as many "parenting" articles as you can, pick n choose n modify the advice to help you. alot of times there is really good advice out there. n also, try to sleep as often as you can when you're baby is asleep. good luck n god bless u 2.
