I work with this horribly annoying turd who will not stop talking to me. Even when I tell him (nicely) to "give me a minute" he thinks I'm joking and keeps jabber jawing. It's even come to the point where I'm not so nice, if fact down right b!itchy and he still doesn't get it. How can I get him to be quiet without silencing him forever?

I would prefer not to go to management because well..."they have their own problems."

In most cases it works against you to go to human resources or management. You need to become very unpleasant.

Laugh with a mouth full of food (make sure he gets a good long look.)

Wear bad perfume.

Go into way too much info about body functions.

No matter what he says, make it about your cat. (even if you don't have one). If he says he had a triple by pass tell him about how you got your cat fixed and she wouldn't eat Purina. If he tells you the Taliban broke into his apartment and set up base, tell him you cat is always on your favorite chair. Be as dull as dishwater.

No matter what he says, act like you don't believe him. Act suspicious. Go on-line and check out what he tells you. If you find an error print it out and leave it on his desk.

Treat every statement as if it were a question he wanted answered. Try to look dead serious. If he says it's a beautiful day, pull out the paper and read the weather report.

Make him repeat sections of his statements. If he says I went fishing and caught a bass, say "Where did you get a bass?" Try not too look too interested in the answer.

Finish his sentences. If he starts to say "I love going to the park" jump in and say "I love seeing kids play too!"

If all else fails, tell him to shut the f*ck up.

Tell him firmly that now isn't the time to chat. You are trying to concentrate on your work and by him talking to you you can't put your full 100% into what you are doing and it deserves nothing less than your 100%.

Tell him when you have a minute you will come over and talk to him.

And right now if definently not the right time to be talking to you

Don't speak. Nothing. No eye contact. No body language.

"excuse me" "excuse me" "excuse me" excuse me... it will get hte point across or he will get tired of saying the same thing over and over...or ear plugs and then pull them out right in front of him when you see his lips moving... then tell him he talks too much and you needed relief.. either way point made

Just tell him how it is (try to be a little nice). If not, tell him to shut up and leave you alone!

Remove yourself from the situation. Either you've got to go or he has to go.
