I know from tragic personal experience...Having been working on full sleeves, plus, for many years...Since I was 12!!! I've had numerous experiences with adding names to my canvas (Bod'). I once tattooed a guy's name on my canvas...Only to regret it, having it removed many years later, and not by laser!!!
About 10 years ago, I decided on a heart, near my heart, with my children's names and, birthdates...All the while "knowing" from tattoo artist friends...This is not a good gig!!! Bad luck!!!
Consequently tragic reality..."My Daughter", first born, only daughter...Was stalked and, murdered by a co-worker 12-24-2002!!!
"My Daughter" and I were together, 27 years, 5 months, 8 days, 12 hours, and 4 minutes...Not including the 9 months I carried her!!!
Hence: Now have a memorial portrait tattoo

Hey I would honestly have to say that noone can answer this question for you, b/c it is your body and your decision. If you don't think that he would ever leave you even though you have a son, if you think you will honestly be together forever then go for it, but if you have any doubt i wouldn't b/c that tatooe has to say there forever, so if he'll be there for as long as it will go ahead.

I wouldn't have done it. Even though the two of you have been together for 10 years you never know what could happen. If you really want to do it get it done in chinesse or arabic or something, that way if the two of you break up it wouldn't cause any problems for you and your new man. make sure your son doesn't know what it is cause he may tell the other guy that you have a tattoo of his daddy's name.
Get it in a foriegn language so you could lie about the meaning if you want to.

Why dont you tatoo the name of your son instead? You dont know what the future might bring for the two of you but your son is and will always be your son.

If you feel you would like a tattoo to celebrate the man you love why not a symbol that represents him instead of a name.
I think that is a more cautious approach and should things (and they probably never will) ever go sour you'll not have as much to explain if you should meet a new love.

It is.
You can never predict the future, and say you get the tattoo and y'all happen to split. You will still have your bf's name on your body and you will never get rid of it. I got my daughters name on my back. My mom's friend was married to her husband for 17 years and had2 kids together, and she got his picture on her back, and the husband ended up having an affair and they got a divorce. 6 years later and she still regrets it. Dont put something on you that you know may never last forever. Your son will always be forever in your heart.

personally, i think it's dumb to get anyones name tatooed on you. 10 years is a long time but it isn't forever. a tatoo doesn't prove anything actions can't.

Everyone I know who has their significant other's name tattooed on each other said it was a curse...why dont you and your bf get the same tattoo as each other, like maybe u 2 like the same thing, or get your son's name together....because u will always love your son.

I wouldn't...names are bad luck. Do something sweet like get the same tattoo but on different parts of your body. But make sure whatever it is, it means something to both of you! That way you're still showing him that you care without worrying that you'll be like "damn, now why did I do that?" later
