I would like to know the switch port number that a particularly floor jack plugs in to? I know the jack number for the user but not to where it exactly connect on the switch.

You could do a trail and error. Look at the switch and have someone disconnect the cable from the computer. Notice which light turns off. This is the port.

You can also use a tone generator. You plug one end into the wall socket and use the receiver at the switch. when the correct wire is found, the receiver will emit a tone. This costs about 100 dollars.

If you can see the LIGHT on the computer's ethernet card, and the LIGHT on the Hub or Ethernet Switch, you can simply UNPLUG, one at a time until you see the other end's light go out. It can be plugged in anywhere.

OK, let me RANT a bit. I have no idea why these Wire-pulling jocks don't MARK the wires. Gosh, that would save us a ton of time when debugging a bogus Ethernet Switch PORT or Computer Ethernet Card failure.
