yes hedgehogs can swim but not for long. If you have a pond in your garden make sure you have an escape route for them. Get an old doormat or piece of chicken wire, anchored strongly and let the end dangle into the water, then hopefully the hedgehog will find the ramp and climb up it. Otherwise make sure you have one end of the pond shallower than the other ideally with a small beach. If you do have a pond and can't make a ramp make sure you check it every day. I found four baby hedgehogs in my pond one morning all of whom had drowned and I DID have a ramp and a small island for them to escape with.

Hedgehogs can swim, but will eventually tire and drown if they are unable to escape from the water.
