Filing a Do-Not-Call Complaint
In addition to complaints alleging violations of the national do-not-call list, you may also file a complaint against a telemarketer who is calling for a commercial purpose (e.g., not charitable organizations) IF:
*
The telemarketer calls before 8 AM or after 9 PM; OR
*
The telemarketer leaves a message, but fails to leave a phone number that you can call to sign up for their company specific do-not-call list; OR
*
You receive a telemarketing call from a company that you have previously requested not call you; OR
*
The telemarketing firm fails to identify itself; OR
*
You receive a pre-recorded commercial message from someone with whom you do not have an established business relationship and to whom you have not given permission to call you.
How to File a Complaint
You can file a complaint by e-mail (donotcall@fcc.gov), telephone 1-888-CALL-FCC (1-888-225-5322) voice or 1-888-TELL-FCC (1-888-835-5322) TTY, or mail. Your complaint should include:
*
name, address, and telephone number where you can be reached during the business day;
*
the telephone number involved with the complaint; and
*
as much specific information as possible, including the identity of the telemarketer or company contacting you, the date on which you placed your number on the national Do-Not-Call registry or made a company-specific do-not-call request, and the date(s) of any subsequent telemarketing call(s) from that telemarketer or company.
If mailing a complaint, send it to:
Federal Communications Commission
Consumer & Governmental Affairs Bureau

When you get a telemarketing call, simply use the words "Please put me on your DO NOT CALL LIST". Try to be polite.
Charities and Politicians are not required to maintain a DO NOT CALL List, but if you are polite, they will add you anyway. If you say ANYTHING else, they will ignore your request. For Charities and Politics, you are doing them a favor by telling them this. They won't waste your time or theirs by making further calls. But if you YAK with them, they don't believe that you don't want to talk.
Another tip... if the CALLER ID is blocked, then Don't Answer It. Hit the Silence button and let them HIT your answering machine. A telemarketer will NEVER leave a message, but a friend who is foolish enough to call you that BLOCKS their caller ID will leave a message, and you can call them back in a few moments.
Some people will see that they missed a call from a total stranger, and CALL to see what's up. HEY, that is the stupidest thing that I ever heard of. If they did not leave a message, don't use the Caller ID thing.

You report it to your State Attorney General's office. The number should be in your telephone book, in the blue pages under state government.
The problem is, if they are using a random "dialing" system, there is no way for them to check what numbers are on the Do Not Call list. That list will cut way down on your unwanted calls, but it can't eliminate them completely. And in order to report the abuse, you need to know what company called you. Do you have that information?\

The do not call list can take up to six months to go completely into effect.....politely or not so politely up to you let the telemarketer know that you are on the do not call list, and you would like to have your name removed from their database until the time it goes completely into effect

Try the FCC website. They will take reports and investigate. Of coarse being a government bureaucracy it will take forever to get a response- but that's the only 'official' body that can do anything about it.

I got one last night on my cell phone also. I guess it's true that they allow cells to receive telemarketing calls now.
I'm going to keep an eye on this question.
