when you sign with the new company, they'll give you the option of keepin your old one. You then have to cancel your contract with the other company.

You may or may not be able to keep your phone, depending on the carrier and the phone.

If you have a Sprint or Verizon phone using CDMA technology, you will only be able to use that phone with another carrier using CDMA. If your phone uses GSM, like Cingular or T-Mobile, you can go to another GSM carrier.

The phone you have is locked, and in order to unlock it you will either have to convince the carrier that you deserve to get the unlock code, which may or may not work, or you need to pay to get the phone unlocked. There are companies that do this, local and on the internet, for about 25.00 to 50.00.

Once the phone is unlocked and if you have a GSM phone, you just need to change the SIM card to your new account. If you have CDMA, you have to get the phone programmed by the new carrier to work on their network.

Contact your current carrier to find the information on your phone, or look up the make and model on the internet to find out more about it.

Good luck!

very easy, you only have to buy another SIM from the new service provider that you want. You can do that by opening the back part of your phone under the battery. There you will see a small chip. That's the SIM you bought from the original company. So just replace it with the new one. and you have a new number from a new service provider already. Of course I am assuming this is a prepaid celfon and not locked to the original company. If it is post-paid and locked, then you have to have it OPEN LINE in a celfon repair station in your city. Its very cheap. Hope this helps.

You may not. Cell carriers like Cingular, Verizon, and others have manufacturers make the phone to work on their specific network, and the one you have may not be compatible with another carrier's network.
