I am a grand aunt and have temp guardianship by the (parent) not the court of her 15mo old. Due to the state nor federal gov being involved I do not qualify for help with CCC. Unless it is an open case with DCF or I get realtive caregiver income. I want the 15 mo to play at a daycare with others. However, my budget has no room for $155.00 tuition a week. I would even be glad to be there when he plays. The father is ordered to pay chid support but dosen't. The mother just started a career in law enforcement and has not the extra income nor the availability for daycare or medical. Medical I am able to get for him through Medipass. Somewhere he should be able to play with other 15mo olds.

Daycare is great for socializing but you can also set up playdates with neighbors kids. Check out your community center for activities also. See if there are any hourly childcare centers in your area. You could take him for an hour or two a day or every other day and it would not be as expensive. Check your local churches for "mother's day out" which is usually one day a week for three or four hours. Talk to mom's you see at the mall during the weekdays and see what they do. You are right, at 15 months he needs to be playing with other kids.

just so i understand this correctly, you aren't actually looking for a daycare, but merely playmates for your niece?

look in your local newspaper for family activities. often they free activities for families with small children. Some public parks have community centers that have activities.

In my area there is an activity center called Kids Koncepts. It cost $10.00 per kid and free for one adult per child. it has so many activities, plus tons of children. You may have something similar in your area.

as for that father, if there is a court order, you can get a wage assignment and have his paycheck garnished. or the county can do it for you for free. they don't mess around with child support payments. they will hunt him down and take it from his paycheck, withhold his income tax and throw him in jail.

contact social services they may be able to get you some child care vouchers. but only if you work. otherwise i dont think you can get free daycare. the people that work there have to be paid too
