Beckham's England career shouldn't be completely over. After all, we're hardly spoiled for choice for talented midfiefield players. Lennon and Downing are bright prospects for the future, but think of the amount they could learn from even a slightly dilapidated David Beckham! He is still capable of brilliance every now and again - just look at his goal at the weekend. Even coming off the bench in a difficult game coul dgive the rest of the team a lift.
I think McLaren dropped him because Beckham chose to 'step down' as Captain. I don't believe that was Beckham's decision to make - unless he wanted to retire from international football. The manager is in a far better position to judge the impact on the team of a change of captain - and Beckham took that decison away from him.

Well, I used to be quite a fan of becham during his prime. But now I totally agree with McLaren's decision. Look, Becks does not fit into the game plan of the England team right now and he is not in great form either(although he did score a goal in the Real Madrid match). So I think even Becks is not really sure if he will make it back into the team. But anyway the English team is doing quite fine without him at the moment; Terry's a good captain and if the defense improves and Rooney learns to cantrol his temper I really dont think Becks has even the slightest chance of gettin back into the team.

I agree! He provides solidarity to a team even although he has considered better days he has the 'F' ingredient. And at the same time as i appreciate John Terry he would not have the umph that David Beckham has. Why do human beings doubt his means whilst he has purely signed a deal worth megga greenbacks. can we expect of that individuals would positioned money into him if he weren't a the main charsmatic man or woman in soccer today. he isn't needed the best yet he has the texture solid ingredient needed to furnish an entire team self assurance and thereby bringing out the best in man or woman gamers and team contributors. Davis Beckham will constantly have my help!

NO,here's why i said,could be right or wrong :
1)Maybe is better for him to stay in Madrid, and concentrate to
help Real win the league title.
2)Give the younger England players a chances too prove
themselves in world stage.
3)With him around,England still get kick out in all Major
Competiton.
4)Some players can play well for the Country and club, but some
can only play for club and not the country, or play for country
not club..And I think he can't play well for England or Real.
Maybe he should just stay in his palace, and watch how
England win the Europe 2008 then World Cup 2010...without
David Beckham
CHEERS !!!!

Its a question of the role he is to play. He is quite limited at his age and can not really move around. he might not get to play central midfield because there are better players there like Lamps, Hargreaves, Gerrard. he might not be able to play on the wings with faster and equally good crossers of the ball like Pennant, lennon and SWP. He might get a recall with the injuries to current players and his good form but only where there is a vacancy with no better player to fill lin. I think the McClaren wants a new era of faster, more skillful and younger players and wants a clean break from the past

Yes - all the goals in the later stages of the world cup came from set pieces and he provides the best crosses and free kicks. Against Macedonia the corners were woeful and now Hargreaves has broken his leg and Lennon injured there is a space for him to play.
Won't happen as MacLaren won't back down.
In easy games such as Andorra I would play Beckham at right back after all he would have no defensive responsibilites and does need the pace to beat a man before crossing.
Lets face it one good half against Greece, not as many goals as we should have got against Andorra and a ropey game in Macedonia is hardly an encouraging start. We don't control midfield, whack it long and invite pressure and can't defend set pieces.

NO!, beckham is too slow for a RMF, and his quality of passing was under serious competition from lampard, gerrard and co anyway. besides, steve mclaren will not let him in.

i think to disregard Beckham completly from the National team is short sighted. With Lennon, Hargreaves and Cole all injured, Gerrard and Lampard not excatly on for - is the midfield now looking a bit thin.

He happens to be one of my favourite men in football... for many reasons, not just his football skills!
However, for the first time in a long time, with the exception of Downing (don't think he's workd class!), the England Mgr has chosen the team I would choose.
I'm optomistic for the future!
So, no, I don't think we need Beckham, although I miss looking at him!
