I haven't read his book, except for the appendix, which is quite useful. I'm not exactly what he means by that, but what I can guess from what I've read by him is that the sociologist must blend his everyday life with his work (sociology). That will help him or her discover the most and understand social happenings the most. He must act as a social observer at all times. That's all I know...
