you can load your hard drive to another computer and you can take all the files. If you have format the HHD you have to buy or download a program (Symantec System Works Premier 2006 http://www.symantec.com ).

It depends what part of the computer is broken ? if the hard drive is still ok then this can be connectd to another computer and the files taken off etc .....if the hard drive is u/s then it is very unlikely the files can be recovered ..there are companies which will try to get data of a broken h/drive but it costs !!

If it is the hard drive you may have to take it to a speciallist. If the drive works at all, there is various salvaging software available

if the hard drive is ok. then install as a slave in another working pc. if the hard drive is bad and won't boot, try booting up with the xp cd (providing it is xp installed on machine), choose repair, and once in the recovery console, run chkdsk /R. This will attempt to repair any bad boot sectors.

If you are running WinXP this works great!

Remove the disk drive from the old puter.
Set is as a Slave and install in your new puter.
